Bonjour Paris! Welcome to the land of baguettes and crepes!

Friday January 10

We are off to Paris! We woke up at 6AM to get ready to leave the hotel in Maastricht and head to Paris for the weekend! We had to take a bus to the train station of Maastricht and from there take three trains to arrive to Paris in the afternoon! We took a train from Maastricht to Liege Guillemins, then to Liege Guillemins to Brussels, Belgium, and finally from Brussels to Paris! On the second train ride, Cinzia and I sat a few rows up in the front since the train was a little crowded. I was so tired that I closed my eyes and rested for a little bit, while Cinz was listening to her music. Awhile into the ride, Cinz taps my shoulder and said that the group left! She was on the phone with another girl on the trip named Sydney saying that they just got off on the last stop; however, we were still trapped on the train going towards Austria! We asked the conductor when the next stop would be so that way we could turn around to catch the train back to Brussels to make it on time for our next train to go to Paris. The train didn't stop until thirty minutes later and we had to wait another thirty minutes to take the train back! Throughout this time all I could do was laugh! I knew we were safe but it was just funny that the entire group got off the train and we were still on it! Since it took us about an hour to get back to Brussels train station, the group and the tour guide, Henry, had to get on the next train to Paris. Thankfully, our professor was waiting for us in Brussels. Since we missed the train to Paris, we were able to switch our tickets for a later train, free of charge! We had time to spare, so we enjoyed a nice sandwich for lunch. We got on the train and we were able to relax and enjoy the ride. Midway through our ride, a few people with orange bands around their arms were walking around randomly checking people's passports and bags. We later found out that they were customs.  THEN WE FINALLY MADE IT TO PARIS!! We made it only an hour later than the rest of the group. We metro to the hotel to drop off our luggage and make our way into the city to have a short tour. Overall we took one bus and four trains but we made it safely to Paris!

On our tour we walked around places in Paris that typical tourist wouldn't know. Our tour guide showed us old allies, a king's place back in the day which is now park that sells art, and we ended at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris! This was probably one of the most beautiful churches I have every seen! We then had dinner at a french restaurant near the church! I had an amazing salmon which was delicious! After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the night!

At night we went to go see the Eiffel Towel! I couldn't believe it! I was in Paris staring at the Eiffel Towel! It was so beautiful with the lights lit up! When roamed around the city and found an american bar/club. Everyone was having a good time in their first night in Paris!
